August 22 BreakfastI've taken this recipe from The Coffee Club. H loved it! Another twist into making breakfast in a jiffy.
Lifestyle Choice Breakfast:
Toasted Turkish bread topped with tasty shaved leg ham, poaches eggs, avocado and light mozzarella cheese. New Farm MarketsMarket market market! About a month ago I went to the farmers market at New Farm with my girlfriends, now I am a convert. I told H I will be doing this again in a fortnight. He seems to be happy about it. I brought back a whole heap of fresh fruits and vegies. I woke up at 6 but didn't leave the house till 7:30. I can not believe the amount of people that was there before 8 am! With the early winter morning air as my buddy, I enjoyed my outing as the boys stayed at home. It meant that I didn't have to hurry to get back and I was able to really soak in the experience. OK, I sound like a loon, but a few hours of peace and "me" time does float my boat.
The selection of breads were fantastic. From one baker to another. I bought a loaf of turkish bread and some pumpkin sourdough rolls for H's lunch. I saw a stall that sold bush riped cherry tomatoes, I thought, heck I should go and get me some. They are the most sweetest tomatoes I've ever had, well worth the money. I will definately purchase them again. Theres the fresh herbs, I always have corriander in my fridge, I love making my salsa all the time and adding corriender gives it more depth and flavour. Fresh cut flowers were abundant, from stocks, roses, carnations, native flowers, daffodils, gerberas, chrysanthemums, mums, lilys, daisys, orchids and whole heap more. Maybe next time I'll grab a pot of orchids and hopefully I won't snuff it. Not much of a green thumb I am. I would like to grow my own herbs, just not enough room and my heart is not in it YET.
Bananas have become more expensive because of the last cyclone, hence I have avoided buying them for a while now. Sometimes P would ask for bananas as we used to have them all the time. All I could tell him is that they are quite expensive that's why we don't have some, and he just gives me a frown. Then I try to bribe him with something else, sometimes it works, not always. Anyway, the queue for the banana stall was stupendous, I dared not to join in, plus they would have been pricey. I skipped on the bananas and veered towards the apples. Royal gala is my fave, sweet and tangy! Then there's the fuji apples as well. I even saw P's classmate J with his mum. As it turns out they have their own line baby clothes, not bad for variety, but a bit pricey for me. They were right next to another baby clothes stall, the owner happens to be pinoy! Hehehehe the world is small after all. The lady, R is really friendly, she sells silk screened singlets, shirts and pants. Good one! I've asked her if she stocks bigger sizes, she said there are heaos at her shop at Herston. I'll definately have a look at one point or another.
I've also visited my friendly croatian cheese maker, bought another pack of haloumi! They seem to be more happier to see a repeat customers. Did I metion the banyeras of olives??? My god! Talk about choices. P would have lost the plot if he saw them. He likes green olives stuffed with pimiento, also known as your run of the mill stuffed olives at the supermarket. But never the less he still enjoys them. He has tried marinated black olives, which he liked as well. I bought another bag of oyster mushroom, I should have bought the shitake ones as well, but I just chose to grab button mushroom instead. It did go well with the breakky that I made when I got home. Toast, bacon, mushies and baked beans. Took heaps of photos, as you can see. I especially liked the french market baskets, has a provencial feel to it. Hopefully MM would enjoy them as much as I did.
Overall, this was a good morning. I had my flat white coffee on the go and even bought a packet of chai for my chai latte, the seller even gave me a free cup! Can't wait till the next market day. August 01 Sunday DinnerSunday's are always dedicated to family. Ours is not different. We celebrated N's bday, actually, she had it last wednesday but we didn't get to celebrate it till sunday. At any rate we had a lovely roast lamb made by R, and I made dessert. Which was Blood Orange Ginger Marmalade and Macadamia cupcakes. This time it was easier to make. Then I topped it off with butter icing and orange zest. They're to die for, especially the almost burnt ones. hehehe. |
