June 25 Etc...Since H is still away, he'll be home tom. I have not felt like doing anything, not even updating my blog as much. But I hope I'll get around to doing it soon. So for now I am posting these photos (non party pics).
We had a lovely afternoon at my girlfriend's house. It was her little boy's 2nd birthday. When I got the invite to the party, she said it was just going to be a bbq. I was quite surprised when I got there this arvo. We had a full Filipino feast. YEY!!!!! There was dinuguan, kare-kare, palabok, chix & pork pinoy bbq, spring rolls, empanada, hopia, leche flan, and cassave cake. It could not get better than that. Ok I sound like I have not eaten pinoy food for ages, truth is, I have not! Lol. Tita Z's dinuguan was spot on. I reckon it's the best I've ever tasted. It is a fave when they have parties, I wouldn't be surprised though. There were heaps left over that I got take away, as per usual, and I ain't complaining at all. Kudos to the chefs! Hala kain na! M-ums
Hmmm... I think I fit the part. But I am not one of those glamour looking Mums. I aspire to be, but it does not seem to be happening. Oh, well. Back to the drawing board. June 11 Barrio Fiesta, Filipino Festival @ YerongaThis fair is an excuse to have BBQ with family and friends. I didn't know that there was a huge community of Pinoy's in Brisbane. This was a nice thing. I did expect more.... more FOOD stalls. Or MORE pinoy goodies from the 13 regions that we have back at home.
Needless to say there were only 6-7 food stalls. Alll of them ran out of rice and diniguan before 12 pm. The long queue for food was also annoying. I did like the pichi-pichi, bbq pork on skewers, chicharon and banana que, allthough the banana que needed more colour and sugar. It tasted good! There was no sign of my beloved turon may churros, but no turon. Halo halo was not even worth the 10 minutes wait. Arrgh! I bought lechon kawali and kare-kare for dinner. The kare-kare was ordinary, heaps of meat in it but needed more veges. No rides for the kids the enjoy. They did have one, but it was soo far from the hive of activities, people forget that it was there to begin with.
We also expected a famous "artista" would make an apperance, but didn't happen as well. Apparently there were contestants from a beauty pageant that they had lined up for entertainment in the arvo. Sayang, they should have brought The Bayanihan Dancers. I just had an image of this fair to like the ones at home...
I maybe baised of the fair, but even though there were things lacking, it was still a good day out with the family. It was nice seeing Pinoy's with their spouses and kids. Basically integrating to society! Now my amiga said that the fair at the Gold Coast would be bigger. I dunno if it would be worth travelling for. We'll see. June 03 3 weeks is too longH is away for 3 weeks. First stop is LA to attend a legal tech convention. From there they will head of to London. To meet a couple of clients, possibly to make a sale on the software. Crossing my fingers! It's been ages since he's been overseas. The last time was, P was a newborn. This time around I have this little kamikaze to attend to on my own. C said it won't be that long, I hope it's true. Otherwise I might end up disheveled by the time he comes home. P has been semi asking when is dad coming back. I on the other hand would have to contend with the loneliness. I have no one to annoy the crap out off! Funny how the annoying habits of your spouse reminds you of how much you get used to it, and you remember them more because of it. I still think 3 weeks is too bloody long.... far too long.
Winter has officially began. It's time to make hearty stews and pudding. Comfort food! Last month I purchased a good quality casserole dish. Quite heavy, but a lovely addtion to my kitchen. I am hoping it would get a lot of use this winter. Next post will be about the casserole dish that I made a few weeks ago. Recipe courtesy of CSIRO diet.
In the next few weeks to come, I hoping to update my pots and pans. Weehee! One pot or pan at a time! Then maybe acquire a new lounge suite. |
