    Lasang Pinoy 17: Egg's a deal

I read a post about bringing back Lasang Pinoy. It's about time! Now I need out cull out my egg recipe book or I can try to replicate my mom's egg dish. At any rate it should be interesting. Especially when there is a deadline around the corner. Better get cracking then eh?

    Happy Day

These past few days I have been pestering my hubby for a huge ticket item for the house. And I mean PESTER Ok. Today he finally gave it a thumbs up. Whew! So in I went and got it. Should be here soon. I also got around to buying a proper desk for my lappy and printer. I'm enjoying my little desk space now. At least I don't have to work on my dinning table and having to put away the laptop and the printer when the work is done. It would be neat to have a study room, rather than being in the lounge room doing work. This should suffice for now.

Over the weekend we went to a few shops and comparing one after the other. Eventually H ended up at an electronic shop. Which I knew would happen. At the end of the day I ended up getting an HP Officejet. I've yet to read up about the machine, but so far, it's been scanning way better than our old HP 1200. A bit bulkier but has more features.

All the hard work is paying off, and with a bit more perseverance eventually we will get there. Ain't life grand? I'm grateful for what H has been able to provide for us. Love you H!

    P's Swimming Lessons

We've put off swimming lessons for as long as we can. At this point we just want P to feel more at ease in the water. Hoepfully it'll pay off. I've been told that when kids learn to swim when they are a bit older it does not take them long to get the hang of it. So that was a relief for me. His first lesson went well, we got lucky that he's was the only one there at the pool. I was told they normally have 4 kids in a class, but for his first go he was the only one, that was great! He immediately trusted his instructor Crystal, and she seemed to be really great with kids. She did say when P got into the water he was a bit rigid, but as the lesson progressed he lossened up. He did look like he was having a great time. Looks like we will be having a busy schedule, tuesdays he has swimming lessons, thursdays tennis, plus full time kindergarten. I hope he doesn't get too tired. Kids are quite adaptable so I guess it'll be fine, as long as he gets days off. I'm still keeping his weekends free for as long as I can, that way we can all just laze around. After all he'll be in primary school soon, then his weekends are gone. Sigh...how time flies eh?

    Come fly with H

For H's birthday pressie this year we got  him a voucher, "Fly a plane".  Basically he gets to fly the plane around Brisbane for about 20 mins. His lesson starts with a thorough technical and saftey briefing. Then take off and take the controls. No, he didn't get to pilot the plane for take off and landing, which I think is fair enough especially when one has not had any flying lessons before.  But, it is still an adrenalin rush when you do take control of the aircaft. I believe he piloted a Cessna 152 or 172.

When his booking was confirmed they e-mailed the details where to go on the day. Royal Queensland Aero Club is situated at Beatty Road Archerfield, Brisbane. Flying is weather dependent and may be cancelled during adverse conditions. We were advised to ring the club on the morning of his flight to confirm that the activity is taking place. To wear comfortable shoes for getting in and out of the aircratf and also closed shoes.

I must admit I was a wee bit envious that he gets to pilot a plane. But as soon as H told me the complexity of it, we thought it might be worth while to do a flight simulation first, before I even try it.  Point taken!

It was a cloudy day, but it was still a nice weather. P and I waited for H at the waiting area. We ended up playing solitaire on the computer,  going in and out of the building to watch H as he got ready for his flight and took off. One of the pilots had a radio handy and graciously explained to me where H might possibly go sight seeing. He ended up going around Mt. Cootha. I was also told that taking up flying as a hobby is pretty dear.

After the flight on the car ride home, I said to the boys how this arvo reminded me of my dad. Dad was an alumni of the Philippine Airforce and was a pilot for a private airline. As an almuni we used to go to their yearly PAF Dinner or to one of their airbase show days. As a child, our home was decorated with some PAF memorabilia (stuffed toy, mugs, figurines etc.), but the most striking of all is my dad's portait on oil wearing his unform, right next to it is my mom, in all her beauty.  When dad passed away there were PAF guards standing by his coffin and his wings were displayed on top, it was also draped with the Philippine flag. He almost got the 21 gun salute but we opted not have it. At one point I thought of following his footsteps and become a pilot but unfortunately math is my waterloo, but it would have been neat.

Now, I wonder what to get H for his 30th next year? It has to top this year though.
